Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
